Tons of fun and ways to show appreciation to our troops are in store to celebrate Independence Day!
Yardley’s Miss Marilyn will kick off the celebration with a Kids' Music Round party! For those who don’t know, Kids' MusicRound is a singing, laughing, giggling, jiggling, clapping, dancing, bouncing, fun-filled, award-winning music and movement experience for infants and young children. Recommended for kids 6 months to 5 years, but all ages welcome. This is a free event that will take place at 4:15 p.m.
There will be a Patriotic Parade around the market for kids and families with a contest for the most patriotic outfits. Winners get a voucher good for a Farmers' Market Shopping Spree. First prize will win a $25 spree, 2nd prize wins a $15 spree and 3rd prize wins a $10 spree. Parade will assemble at 5:15 p.m.
Yardley's Girl Scout Troop 293 will display the Operation Gratitude Paracord Survival Bracelets that they have made for our troops. They will also provide Market attendees an opportunity to show their support for the troops by participating in Operation Gratitude note writing and picture drawing — a simple way to send active duty soldiers a message of support and appreciation. The letters and pictures, along with the Paracord bracelets, will be sent to Operation Gratitude to be included in care packages going to our servicemen and women.
VFW Post 6393 will have information about the VFW and will be selling poppies. Poppy sales support state and national veterans' rehabilitation and service programs.
Veterans Square Foundation will have a white board on which guests at the Market can write a message of gratitude to our veterans that will be displayed at the monument. The Foundation will also have brochures about the monument and photo notecards available for sale.
In addition to all the special activities and events, the Farmers Market vendors will have a special selection of products to make your Independence Day feast the highlight of your celebration. Goodies available for grilling will include beef, chicken, and pork, as well as unique artisan sausages and nitrate-free hotdogs. Of course, early summer produce will be available. Think about fresh corn on the grill or as the beginnings of a fresh and tasty side dish. Or check out the variety of greens, peas, etc. that are available as the makings of a seasonal salad. Why not top off those dishes – and burgers! – with a side of award-winning, locally-produced cheese. Not interested in creating from scratch? Explore the variety of specialty ketchups, mustards, relishes, salsa and dips that put the finishing touch on any summer barbeque. For dessert with a local flair, we will have chef-prepared baked goods. Impress them with a delicious dessert without heating up the kitchen.
A delicious Fourth of July starts here.
